Minister looks at front number plates for bikes

The Victorian Government will consider the reintroduction of front number plates for motorcycles in the wake of a report that has found speed cameras are effective in reducing road injuries and fatalities, the Deputy Premier said today.

Peter Ryan, who is also Victoria’s Police Minister, said he was concerned about a statistic in the Victorian Auditor-General’s Road Safety Camera Program report — tabled in parliament today — that showed motorcyclists were 30 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured than other road users. Today’s report found speed cameras have been effective in reducing road trauma.
